Volunteer Opportunities
Behind the Scenes: Strengthening Our Fundraising
We are seeking a Fundraising Lead to join our Core Group, the small team of volunteers who each oversee a workstream within CWR. This role would take on oversight of CWR's fundraising activity, with support from our Admin and Activity Coordinator:
identifying and developing funding bids to trusts, foundations and other grant-making bodies;
maintaining and overseeing a healthy fundraising pipeline so opportunities are tracked and prioritised;
writing bids, gathering supporting evidence, and writing funder reports and/or recruiting and briefing a small group of volunteers as needed to help with this work;
looking further ahead, shaping a coherent fundraising strategy that can give CWR a sustainable financial footing to continue our work for the long term.
Ideally, this person will have some experience of grant writing and ideally overseeing fundraising in a charitable organisation, as well as of course a passion for the work CWR does. They'll work closely with the rest of the Core Group, and with the Admin and Activity Coordinator, alongside oversight support from our trustee with a fundraising specialism, to ensure funding priorities align with CWR's wider programme of work. And in doing so, will have a transformative impact on what we do!
Help Needed: CWR Welcome Café Transport Volunteers
The ever-popular, monthly Welcome Café is looking for more people able to give lifts to families wanting to attend. On the first Thursday of the month, families need to be dropped off at a venue in the Hatherley area of Cheltenham around 6pm and collected at 8.15. Car seats for small children can be provided. You might also want to join the team arranging the activities but could just be the “taxi”.
New Activity: Indoor Sports Sessions
We have been offered daytime access to an indoor sports space in central Cheltenham and we’re looking for a volunteer to run a weekly session - with support, of course. The space could be available on Tuesday afternoons, Thursday mornings, Thursday mid-afternoons or Friday afternoons depending on what suits you. Activities might include table tennis, basketball and volleyball, and you’re welcome to start with one sport and grow the programme gradually.
You’ll be working with a friendly group of young to middle‑aged adults. Many already take part in our weekly football group, which is one of the highlights of our week, and sports are a great way for people to practise their English. If you wonder whether such activities are important, this is a message we received recently:
During my asylum process I went through a deeply stressful and sad time. For a long time, the only moments of joy and relief were going to the Monday drop-in meetings and the Tuesday football sessions. The football provided many of us living at the hotel with a vital escape in the most difficult days and a sense of normality and community when we needed it most.
If you are interested in any of these roles, please either sign up via our volunteer application form or email coord.chelt.refugees@gmail.com for more information.
